Pickl privacy policy

Pickl is a ranked pickleball ladder for verified University of Florida students. This page says exactly what it stores, why, and how to get rid of it. There is no analytics package, no advertising, no tracking across other apps or websites, and nothing here is sold or shared for marketing.

What Pickl stores

What Why
Your @ufl.edu email address To prove you are a UF student, to sign you in, and to send you the things you have turned on. It is never shown to other players.
Your password Stored only as a PBKDF2 hash. Nobody at Pickl can read it, and it cannot be recovered — only reset.
Your username, avatar and profile background This is your public identity. Other players see it on the leaderboard, in the park and on match screens.
Your phone number, if you add one Entirely optional. Nothing is sent until a code you type back confirms the number is yours. Used only for the texts you opted into. Never shown to other players.
Your precise location, at check-in only A ranked match only counts if both players are actually at the court. When you tap to check in, Pickl takes a single location reading, checks it is within 200 m of the court, and stores it with that match. This is the most sensitive thing Pickl holds.
Your match results and rating Scores, wins, losses, rating history and coins. This is the ladder; it is the point of the app.
Your messages What you write in the park's phone box (visible to everyone on your campus) and in direct messages to friends.
Your position in the park Where your character is standing in the in-app park — a made-up place, not a real one. One row per player, overwritten as you walk; no history is kept, and you disappear about 25 seconds after you stop.
A notification token, if you allow notifications Issued by Apple so notifications can reach your device. Deleted when you sign out.

Where your location is and is not used

Pickl asks for location once, when you tap to check in, and never in the background. It is compared to the court's coordinates on the server and stored against that match.

Your coordinates are never shown to anyone — not to your opponent, not on the activity feed, not on your profile. The feed says what is happening on campus and who is playing; it deliberately does not say where any person is.

Who else sees it

Pickl uses a small number of services to work at all. None of them are given your data for their own purposes:

Pickl does not sell your data, does not share it for advertising, and has no third-party analytics or ad SDKs in the app.

Turning things off

Email and notifications each have a switch in your profile. Texts can be turned off there too, or by replying STOP to any of them, and you can remove your number entirely. Location can be turned off for Pickl in iOS Settings — check-in will not work without it, but nothing else in the app needs it.

Deleting your account

Your profile → Delete my account. It asks for your password, then it is gone: your email address, password, phone number, avatar, coins, messages, friends and the coordinates from every check-in are deleted, and you are signed out everywhere. It cannot be undone.

One thing survives, and it is worth being clear about: matches you already played stay on your opponents' records. Their ratings were calculated against yours, so deleting those results would rewrite someone else's history. In them you appear as a deleted player, with no name, no avatar and no location.

Children

Pickl requires a university email address and is not intended for anyone under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top changes and players are told in the app before it takes effect.
